When Patty Farrell landed the role, Greg thought about being the witch, because he'd heard that she does all sorts of mean things to Dorothy. To him, tryouts seemed to go on forever, ending with the kids who wanted to be Dorothy. He didn't know what a soprano was, but as he heard some of the girls giggling, he knew it couldn't be a good thing. ![]() Norton said that Greg was a lovely soprano. ![]() Norton (the music director) made everyone sing "My Country 'Tis of Thee" so she could hear their singing voices. Greg had never seen the movie (or read the book), so he felt like he was at a freak show. When Greg came to the auditions some students were wearing costumes for the parts that they hoped to get. However, he was forced to do so after an argument with Susan and Frank. ![]() Greg didn't want to audition because he didn't want to sing in front of everyone. After arriving back home from school one day, Susan came to Greg with an flyer about the play.
